Dues Appeal Update

We've had a great response from our annual dues appeal last month. A special thanks to the following who gave an extra donation to support the HSHA and its activities:

Do You Have Energy Saving Recommendations?

Many of us are interested in making our old homes more energy efficient. However, there is so much to choose from on the market now, it is often difficult to know even which light bulbs work best. If you have had success with anything from a particular brand of energy efficient light bulb to an insulation contractor, send me the information, and I will compile a list to be used as a reference for our neighbors. (Having someone who has had success with a product is often a more reliable reference than a salesman!) Your reference should include: the product, the company and address for that product and your name and contact information. The list will then be posted along with references to the next Highlight and on our website.

Many thanks, Olivia Fischer Fox, 36 Upland Road, ofischerfox@comcast.net.

Update

It's been quite a success so far but we've got one more work date scheduled. Please join us Saturday, June 16.

This spring over forty neighbors joined our effort to spruce up Olmsted Park. With the guidance of the Town's Division of Parks and Open Space we have raked, edged and mulched beds, removed knotweed and unclogged the Babbling Brook. It's been quite a success so far but we've got one more work date scheduled. Please join us Saturday, June 16, from 10am to 1pm. Tools will be provided and "Brookline Volunteer" T-shirts will be given to all who help out. Children welcome. Please meet at the parking lot near the intersection of Pond Avenue and Jamaica Road. Thanks to all who pitched in and special thanks to Park Department Project Leaders Christine Dean, Karen Ariele, John Gillis and Jim Casselman.

Meet the New HSHA Board

Our Annual Meeting on April 23rd was a busy one. In addition to hearing from guest speaker Deirdre Buckley from Climate Change Action Brookline, we got a chance to ask questions of State Representative Jeffrey Sánchez, Town Administrator Rich Kelliher, Police Captain John O'Leary and Parks and Open Space Director Erin Chute Gallantine. We also inducted a new board. It includes a mix of old timers and new faces and will well represent the diverse residents of the High Street area.

We would like to thank outgoing board members Arlene Mattison, Cliff Reid, Luis Moreno, Rosemary Mahoney and Marie Schick for their past service. Arlene, a past president who has been on the board for many years, will be especially missed. In countless ways she has been a tireless advocate for our neighborhood and we have always appreciated her warm manner, political experience and good advice.
